Americans' Views on a COVID-19 Vaccine

COVID Collaborative conducted a nationally representative poll, in partnership with Hart Research, to assess how Americans view COVID-19 vaccines. The poll revealed that despite high levels of concern about the virus (with 88% of Americans seeing it as a serious problem or that the worst is yet to come, and 91% expressing concern that a family member will get sick), fears of a politically expedited development and approval process have undermined public confidence.

COVID Collaborative co-chairs, former Governor Dirk Kempthorne (R - Idaho) and former Governor Deval Patrick (D - Massachusetts), used these data in an op-ed published in Stat News, in which they urged governors and public health officials to work together on a bipartisan basis to prepare for a safe, effective, and equitable distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine.
