Amy Pisani is a leading authority in vaccine advocacy. As the executive director of Vaccinate Your Family, Pisani has played an integral part in setting the standards for immunization in America today. ECBT was founded in 1991 as Every Child By Two by Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and Betty Bumpers, wife of retired Senator Dale Bumpers. To better reflect the organization’s expanded mission to protect people of all ages from vaccine-preventable diseases, ECBT was renamed Vaccinate Your Family: The Next Generation of Every Child By Two.
Since 1996, Pisani has worked with the board of directors and staff to execute the mission and goals of the organization. Pisani began her career with ECBT in 1996, becoming Executive Director in 1998, at which time she successfully filed for incorporation and attained 501(c)(3) status for the organization. She is passionate about the need to ensure the timely vaccination of families throughout the world and is a true champion of Vaccinate Your Family’s mission.
Following the model developed by VYF’s cofounders, Pisani enlists the support of elected officials, concerned community leaders, and representatives of many national and local organizations. Pisani leads the group in legislative education, building alliances with like-minded interests, working with the media to ensure science-based reporting on vaccines, and educating the public through various mediums. With a total of 200,000+ followers across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, VYF has a substantial social media presence, reaching over 3.8 million people annually with science-based information about the importance of timely vaccinations and the safety of vaccines for people of all ages.
Pisani maintains the organization’s active educational footing by presenting at conferences, hosting and presenting at congressional briefings, monitoring and acting on regulation and policy changes that affect immunization delivery, and developing campaigns that have educated hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
Pisani’s commitment to public health is also evident in several other roles. Pisani serves as the President of her local Rotary Club, where she has been honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. She served as a public member of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ National Vaccine Advisory Committee from 2011-2015. Ms. Pisani is a founding member of the 317 Coalition, which seeks to ensure stable congressional funding for immunization programs each year and on the Adult Vaccine Access Coalition. Pisani instituted a monthly Immunization Policy Call in 2020 which now includes over fifty partner organizations.
As a mother of high school and college students, Pisani has first-hand experience in navigating the complicated healthcare system to ensure timely immunization of her family. Her oldest son was hospitalized from influenza twice during infancy; an experience that served to bolster her commitment to educating the public about the dangers of influenza. Beyond pediatrics, Pisani gained broader healthcare advocacy experience as the Education Program Coordinator at the Optical Society of America and as Senior Staff Specialist for the American Nurses Association. Pisani received her master’s of science from Gallaudet University for the Deaf, Washington, DC, and her baccalaureate degree in Psychology with high honors, from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC.
